[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="243"] SHU Piratethon Twitter[/caption] The annual Seton Hall University 12-hour PirateThon will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 8 p.m. to Sunday, March 13 at 8 a.m. The event will take place on campus in the Main Lounge in the University Center and will be open to the entire SHU community.   The proceeds raised will be donated to the Valerie Fund, a non-profit organization in Maplewood, N.J. The organization helps families of children who are suffering from pediatric cancer and blood disorders. Since 2012, PirateThon has raised over $50,000 for the fund and the goal for this year’s PirateThon is to raise $10,000. The purpose of the dance marathon is to celebrate the fundraising efforts of all the teams with a 12-hour dance marathon. In the past, there have been about about 300 people in attendance at the event. Sophia Joseph, a senior marketing and information technology management major and co-chair of Piratethon, said she hopes to see more people at the event this year. Joseph has been involved with PirateThon for four years and said that there are many fun events planned for this event and all of the details are on their social media sites. According to the PirateThon facebook page, there will be entertainment, food, games, and music all night long. All students are eligible for service hours and credit towards priority points upon attendance. There is a $10 registration fee, a $15 registration fee the week of the event, and a $20 registration fee if a person decides to participate the day of the event. Students are able to start fundraising now, and it is a team’s choose as to how they want to fundraise. Haley Zenna can be reached at
