University Center to restore on-campus ‘Pub’

Students no longer have to turn to frat parties or Iron Bar when a new University Center bar welcomes all drinking activities.

Paying ~$24 or more for a round-trip from South Orange to Morristown just to go to Iron Bar or Horseshoe Tavern for a mid night-out experience is no longer worth it when the University Center has other plans.

On April 1, the University Center revealed they will revive a once popular gathering spot within the building—the “Pub.”

The “Pub” was once a Seton Hall tradition—students gathered every Thursday night from the early 1970s to 1996 to enjoy a drink or two with friends. Now, that tradition is being brought back 30 years later—proving that some things truly never die.

There will be themed nights, such as disco night, even though students don’t know what that is. There will also be therapy night where students can air their grievances to their bartenders, who will give “quick fixes” (aka unhelpful advice) and speed dating night where students think they’ll find their match but probably won’t.

Some students expressed optimism at being able to stay on campus to have a drink and socialize with friends.

“By the time I get to Morristown, I’m already in financial ruin from the train ride,” one student without a job said. “I am excited to walk to the UC for a hopefully affordable night out.”

Others embraced nostalgia, probably a feeling their parents once experienced.

“We were definitely robbed of a niche 90s experience, so we’re finally getting what we deserve,” another student added, despite not being alive in the 1990s.

But the majority of students aren’t fully convinced of this addition.

“If I see people from my classes I know, I’m immediately out,” a student who hardly leaves their dorm room said. “That’s cringe.”

“I don’t even think this will be popular cause it doesn’t carry the aura of what it means to go out, like bar hopping or something,” another student, who’s never had a night out, said.

“This is the type of thing my professors would be caught at,” a student who hardly shows up to class added.

“If the food’s bad in the cafeteria, who said the drinks would be good?” another student said, who’s never had cafeteria food before.

Though, a silent minority are fully on board with the idea.

“If there’s a fire DJ and a dance floor—I’m literally there every night,” a student said, not knowing there will be no dance floor.

“Staying on campus sounds pretty good now,” another student who frequents Hoboken said. “It’s just right here—it doesn't get more convenient than that NGL [not gonna lie].”

The “Pub” is open to students 21years old and older. At the door, students must show a valid ID.
