Seton Hall women’s soccer continued their undefeated season with a 0-0 draw against Wagner on Thursday.
With the tie, the Pirates are now 4-0-1 through their first five matches of the season. SHU finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots, with 7 of them on goal. Unfortunately, none got past Wagner goalkeeper Abigail Marcello.
Wagner responded with several opportunities in the first half, but neither team took control early.
SHU began creating more scoring opportunities inside the box as halftime approached. The Pirates produced eight shots in the opening 45 minutes, four of which were on goal. Wagner entered the break with six shots and one attempt on target.
The Pirates became more aggressive offensively after halftime.
SHU attempted 10 shots in the second half while limiting Wagner to just two. One of the Pirates' closest opportunities came in the 58th minute when midfielder Danni Hennessy's attempt hit the crossbar, keeping the match scoreless.
Gianna Angelillo led all players with seven shots, placing two on goal. Nicole Proia added three attempts, including two on target, while Hennessy and Kileigh Gorman each finished with two shots.
Despite the Pirates controlling the shot total, Wagner had an opportunity to steal the match in the closing minutes.
With three minutes to go, the Seahawks moved down the field on a counterattack and created a close opportunity. SHU goalkeeper Kate Kleinsmith made the save to prevent Wagner from taking a late lead and stealing one on the road.
Kleinsmith finished with two saves and secured her fourth clean sheet of the season for the Pirates. SHU's defense has been dominant through its first five games of the season, allowing only one goal during that stretch.
The Pirates will close out their non-conference schedule at Hofstra on Sept. 17 before opening BIG EAST play on the road against DePaul on Sept. 26.
