Men’s basketball adds further backcourt depth with in-conference commit Roddie Anderson out of transfer portal

The Pirates add even further depth to their backcourt, with frontcourt additions likely to follow.

Seton Hall men’s basketball looked to the South for their previous 6-foot-3 guard out of the transfer portal, but stayed in-conference for their next.

On Monday, 247Sports’ Travis Branham reported that Roddie Anderson III, a postgrad guard from Xavier, has committed to The Hall out of the transfer portal.

Appearing in all 33 of Xavier’s games last season, starting just five of them, Anderson III averaged 10.9 points, 33.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 23.8 minutes per game. His 359 total points were the third-highest on the team, while his 44 total steals were a team-best.

Anderson’s commitment comes just a day after Del Jones, another 6-foot-3 guard, committed to The Hall out of the portal as well. The two add further depth to the Pirates’ backcourt rotation, which also includes Simeon Wilcher, a 6-foot-4 combo guard who was the Pirates’ first commit out of the transfer portal, sophomore guard Trey Parker, who stands as the lone returning player from last season’s SHU roster, and Darrien Moore, a class of 2026 commit.

Serving as the Musketeers’ sixth man, it's possible that Anderson will reprise a similar role as a Pirate next season.

With the portal closing on Tuesday and their backcourt already loaded with talent and depth, expect SHU to use the time remaining to fill the rest of their roster with additions to their frontcourt instead.
