With the potential loss of one Plainfield, New Jersey native, incomes another.
On Monday, On3’s Joe Tipton reported that Texas transfer Simeon Wilcher has committed to Seton Hall men’s basketball.
A 6-foot-4 junior combo guard, Wilcher averaged 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 18 minutes per game for the Longhorns last season. He brings to The Hall shooting splits of 36.6% from the field, 33.7 % from beyond the arc and 91.7% from the charity stripe.
This marks a full-circle moment not only for Wilcher, who spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career in the BIG EAST with Rick Pitino at St. John’s, but also for SHU head coach Shaheen Holloway.
During Wilcher’s senior season at Roselle Catholic High School, Holloway tried recruiting the then- four-star recruit and ESPN’s No. 28 prospect in the nation to The Hall, but to no avail.
Holloway gave it a second try when Wilcher elected to transfer following the 2024-2025 season, but again to no avail, Wilcher choosing the Longhorns instead.
But now Holloway will finally get the chance to coach Wilcher, who will likely see more playing time compared to his time at Texas, given the potential loss of junior guards Tajuan Simpkins and Adam “Budd” Clark, who both entered the transfer portal last week.
“Excited to see Sim back in N.J. and playing for Seton Hall,” former Roselle Catholic head coach Dave Boff told NJ.com’s Adam Zagoria. “Sim is one of New Jersey’s all-time winningest high players.”
"I think he’s going to bring a ton to the table to help Seton Hall back to the NCAA Tournament,” Buff added.
