Seton Hall ranks in the top 20 among Catholic national universities in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 “Best Colleges” ranking.
SHU shares the No. 19 spot with the University of St. Thomas, ahead of DePaul University and Duquesne University, according to a press release by the university.
In “National Universities,” SHU ranked no. 158, tied with two other New Jersey universities: Montclair State University and Stockton University, rising seven spots from last year’s ranking.
The university also placed No. 118 in “Nursing Programs,” No. 158 in “Economics,” and No. 198 in “Top Performers on Social Mobility.” In each ranking, SHU tied with other universities.
The undergraduate business program ranked No. 109, rising 18 spots since last year’s ranking. SHU is also tied for seventh place among New Jersey’s national universities.
"This recognition reflects the University's identity as a place of hope and possibility, where students can create lives marked by lasting success and personal fulfillment,” said Msgr. Reilly, SHU president, in the press release.
In August, SHU was recognized by the Princeton Review as a “Top College.” The ranking “emphasises academic excellence and student success,” amid SHU’s launch of a new strategic plan and donation campaign, according to University Relations.
“Our commitment to academic distinction, faculty-student engagement and student success has positioned Seton Hall among the leading Catholic universities in the nation,” said Erik Lillquist, interim provost, chief administrative officer and executive vice president of SHU.
