Seton Hall kicked off a renovation to Walsh Library that will include the construction of an “Innovation Hub” on the ground floor, according to a press release published on May 4.
The transformation inside the library’s Teaching, Learning and Technology Center will begin this month with “minimal disruption” to the university community, the release said. “The Hub” will feature an open study lounge and consultation rooms for technology support, a “Maker Studio” to put technology on display, a flexible XR/AI Studio for exploratory teaching and innovation, and content creation spaces, including a recording studio and three podcast studios.
University officials explained how the Innovation Hub’s open study lounge would provide a new level of access.
“The goal is for most of the new facility to be accessible to students 24 hours a day,” said Andrew Misura, director of media and marketing strategy. “While 24-hour access may not be available immediately at opening as construction on the new entrance continues, the studios will feature swipe card access to ensure secure entry at all times.”
Christtian Lopez, a junior finance and technology major, said these added resources would be valuable to all students.
“The new innovation hub renovation will give students at Seton Hall, of all majors, an opportunity to learn more about upcoming technology developments,” he said. “I see the renovation as somewhere that will allow me to conduct hands-on research outside of the classroom.”
In an email to the university community, President Msgr. Joseph Reilly said that the Innovation Hub was part of SHU’s “continued commitment to innovation and academic excellence.”
“This state-of-the-art technology resource center will provide a collaborative space where students can explore, create, and experiment, and where faculty can incorporate emerging technologies into their teaching and research,” Reilly said.

Anna Zhu, a sophomore finance major, said she appreciated the idea of being able to utilize part of the library whenever she wanted.
“I think the creation of 24/7 access to a study room on the first floor is a good idea so that people don’t have to wait until finals to access the library 24/7,” she said. “I think the room for people to collaborate and work in a studio will allow people who are interested to try taking a class for that field.”
As part of Walsh Library’s makeover, the Innovation Hub will feature a glass-walled entry along Seton Drive with an open staircase connecting the space to the second floor of the library, making the space more visible and accessible to the university community.
Jessenia Lugo, a senior social and behavioral sciences major, said the new entrance is a “great” addition to improve accessibility.
“It allows for easier, equitable access to the library for everyone, including those with wheelchairs and disabilities,” she said. “I wish I had this, because it allows for us to have more diverse learning for academics and even social interaction.”
Noelia Herrera, a senior liberal studies major, said that these changes could help other students like her.
“I think as a graduating senior, I wish I had these facilities when I was here,” she said. “I know a lot of the AI and podcast stuff was being talked about, but I never had a class that utilized these things, so I am excited to hear about this and how it will help students in their future.”
Walsh Library will be accessible for the duration of the renovation and Walsh Gallery and Archives and Collections will remain open.
