Five Starbucks drinks students love… that aren’t coffee

With the new addition of Starbucks on campus, students shared their “go-to” drink orders at the popular coffeehouse.

Strawberry Acai Refresher Lemonade

This drink contains strawberry flavors with passion fruit and acai notes. It is mixed with lemonade and served over ice with freeze-dried strawberries.

Madie Phillips, a junior sports management major, said the strawberry acai refresher lemonade is her favorite drink to order.

“It’s very flavorful and always makes my days better,” Phillips said. “It’s mad good.”

Phillips said she orders the refresher six days a week. She said her favorite ingredient is lemonade.

“It’s the best drink, but if you want to make it better add peach juice, three pumps classic syrup and strawberry purée,” Phillips said.

The Pink Drink

This beverage features tastes of the strawberry acai refresher combined with coconut milk and topped with strawberries.

Giovanna Guzman, a junior biology major, said she orders this drink at least four days a week.

“It tastes good but also has caffeine and we all need a boost,” Guzman said. “It's just nice to treat yourself sometimes.”

Guzman said the drink costs $5.95, but it’s worth the price.

“It’s just juice with coconut milk, but I still buy it anyway,” Guzman said.

Iced Peach Green Tea Lemonade

This drink includes spearmint, lemon verbena, lemongrass and a splash of lemonade served over ice.

Chelsea Major, a junior psychology major, said she adds extra peach juice and asks for light ice to this drink.

“It’s my favorite drink because it’s very refreshing and has the perfect amount of sweetness,” Major said.

She said her favorite ingredient is peach juice and calls it “Starbucks’s best drink.”

“I would recommend this to other students, especially as it is getting warmer outside,” Major said. “I think it’s the perfect warm weather drink.”

Strawberry Crème Frappuccino

The strawberry crème Frappuccino is a blend of ice, milk and strawberry puree layered on top of more strawberry puree and finished with vanilla whipped cream.

Julia Gallo, a junior diplomacy and international relations major, said her favorite ingredient is the strawberry puree at the bottom of the concoction.

“It’s absolutely delicious and super refreshing,” Gallo said. “It also gives you the caffeine you need for the day.”

Gallo said she buys this drink once every two weeks.

“The Frappuccino is something different other than a normal coffee,” Gallo said. “Drinking plain coffee and water all of the time gets boring, and this drink changes it up for me.”

Mango Dragon Fruit Lemonade Refresher

This tropical refresher combines dragon fruit and mango flavors, hand-shaken with ice and a scoop of diced dragon fruit.

Dalbert Mesa, a junior business administration major, said he orders this drink once a week.

“I feel like everything at Starbucks is a little overpriced, but in moderation I would say the refresher is worth it,” Mesa said.

Mesa also said this drink is a good alternative to coffee because of the caffeine in the refresher.

“It’s one of the most popular drinks on the menu for a reason,” Mesa said. “Everyone should give it a try.”
