Seton Hall women’s soccer coach Rick Stainton is leaving Seton Hall, Vice President and Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons said on Monday morning.
Stainton’s departure comes after seven years with the program. Following his time as an assistant coach in 2011 and 2012, Stainton was named head coach in 2013. The season between ending his assistant coach career and beginning his head coach career at Seton Hall was spent as head coach at Farleigh Dickinson University.
The Pirates have improved defensively under Stainton, but the team has struggled overall in his tenure. Over the past two seasons, the team is 2-24-9.

“We want to thank Rick for all that he’s done for Seton Hall women’s soccer student-athletes in his five years, both as a coach and a mentor,” Lyons said in a release. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Stainton leaves behind a young team with 19 underclassmen and seven graduating seniors.
“At this time, I have decided to resign as head coach to pursue other professional opportunities,” Stainton said. “It has been a great honor to lead the women’s soccer program and represent Seton Hall. I wish all associated with the University much success ahead!”
Under Lyons, Seton Hall will begin the search for a new head coach soon.
“As we move towards the future, we are excited to identify the next leader of our women’s soccer program who can develop the Pirates into a perennial contender for the Big East Championship while maintaining the high standard of academic success the program has held for itself,” Lyons said.
