Coach Gerson Echeverry decided to go with junior goalkeeper Brandon Barnes for the second match in a row. Barnes made a crucial play early on at the 18-minute mark to punch away a cross by Marquette to keep the game knotted at 0-0. Pirates sophomore forward Andres Arcila made a move 33 minutes in to take a shot that ended up going above the Marquette goalkeeper. Seven minutes later, freshman midfielder Alex Pozesky had a chance on net that the opposing goalkeeper swallowed up. The first half of play was pretty even offensively, with both teams registering six shots each. The Golden Eagles struck early in the second half, as senior forward David Selvaggi scored seven minutes in. The Pirates had a few chances to equalize the score but failed to do so. At the 60th minute, Chris Salazar fired a shot on net off a pass from Arcila that was saved. Seton Hall had multiple chances in the closing minutes to tie the game, including a shot that was tipped over the net by the Golden Eagles goalie with six minutes left. With a minute remaining, Pirates freshman defender Corey Burkhardt took a shot from just outside the box that went wide, which was the last opportunity for the men in blue. Seton Hall ended up with a 14-10 shot advantage over Marquette at the game’s end. The Pirates are now 0-3-0 in Big East conference games. They will host DePaul on Wednesday at 7 p.m.   Drew Williams can reached at andrew.williams@student.shu.edu
