Women's soccer drops Big East opener to St. John's

[caption id="attachment_11139" align="alignnone" width="660"]Seton Hall Athletics Seton Hall Athletics[/caption]   The Seton Hall women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 match to St. John’s in the opening contest of Big East play. The Pirates allowed the Big Red to put up a total of 15 shots with nine coming in the first half and six in the second half. Junior Illissa Blackshear had five saves and allowed one goal in the first half and two in the second half. Senior Rachel Daly scored her eighth and ninth goals for the Big Red. The first goal was a header in the 26th minute assisted by junior Morgan Tinari. The second goal came in the 60th minute and was assisted by sophomore Shea Connors. Freshman Lucy Whipp scored an unassisted goal in the 58th minute for her second goal of the season. The Blue and White put up only three shots in the match with no shots on goal. The Pirates had a chance early in the second half when freshman Tanika Roach was set up by senior Amanda Gulli, but Roach’s shot was too high. Senior Emily Hansinger and Gulli also had shots in the game. Two goalies played for the Big Red and both did not allow any goals, but neither recorded a save. Graduate student Katie DeVault started and played the whole first half. Junior Diana Poulin started the second half and finished the game. St John’s has been using two goalies in games since the loss to Brown earlier in the season.
