The women’s soccer team closed out their regular season on Friday, falling to the Georgetown Hoyas 8-0.

The loss brings the final regular season to 3-10-5 on the year, going 0-6-3 in conference play. Friday’s shutout was the 13th time the Pirates were shutout.

The Pirates struggled early, allowing three-consecutive unassisted goals in the first half, starting with senior mid-fielder Dephane Corboz who found the back of the net off a rebound for the 1-0 lead for the Hoyas at 3:56.

Then, forward Audra Ayotte tapped in a loose ball from a scramble inside the box at 12:20 to put the Hoyas up by a pair.

Dephane Corboz would add her second of the game and ninth on the year at 21:37, putting the Hoyas up 3-0 exiting the first half.

The Pirate’s defense hung tough but couldn’t seem to stop the Hoya’s relentless attack, which tallied 11 shots and a Georgetown defense that kept the Pirates off the score sheet.

Like the first half, Georgetown’s attack was too much for Seton Hall to handle. The Hoyas added a fourth goal just three minutes into the second. Freshman defender Taylor Pak beat the Pirate’s defense and buried a beautiful set up by mid-fielder Rachel Corboz. The Hoyas maintained possession and just five minutes later sophomore forward Grace Damaska tapped a loose ball past junior goalkeeper Gina Maiorana to give the Hoya’s a commanding 5-0 lead.

Six minutes later Georgetown hit yet again, as Daphne Corboz found net for the hat trick and her 10th on the season. Good enough for 36 points, which leads the Big East in points.

The Hoyas kept it going, a pair of goals late in the second half from senior forward Vanessa Skrumbis sealed the game for the Hoyas, who won 8-0 and outshot the Pirates 23-4, the Hall had just one shot come on goal.

For the Pirates, the 2014 campaign comes to an end. The team failed to qualify for a berth in the Big East Tournament.

For the Hoya’s, with the win, coupled with a St. John’s loss, positions them at 2nd in the Big East behind only unbeaten DePaul. This win also gives The Hoya’s a first round bye in the Big East Tournament. The Hoyas came into South Orange as the number-22 ranked team in the nation.
