Hidden gem of the Hall

The Richie Regan Recreational Center is home to the finest exercise and recreational facilities on campus. Located just behind the library on Seton Drive, the "Rec Center" allows the students of Seton Hall to stay in shape with full use of five basketball courts, a track, gym, racquetball court, sauna, and pool.

"The Rec Center is great," Brian Poll, assistant director of Recreational Services, said. "It gives students a place to work out and play sports, and it also gives them a place to meet fellow students."

One of the most utilized parts of the Rec Center is the basketball courts located within the Richie and Sheila Regan Field House. From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. during weeks in the academic year, students can be seen playing pick-up basketball and running around the track.

Students are also allowed to use the auxiliary gym, located directly below historic Walsh Gymnasium. The "aux gym," where Seton Hall's basketball team practices occasionally, enables to play games on true hardwood.

The Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium, home to an impressively large pool, gives students the opportunity to cool down and exercise whenever they like, as long as practice is not in session. On those hot spring days towards the end of the semester, it is especially popular with the student body.

"I've become an avid swimmer these days (during the end of the 2008-2009 academic year)," said sophomore Nick Cooley. "I honestly feel so rejuvenated after a going swimming. The sauna is great too."

The Rec Center also becomes the place for a wide variety of intramural sporting events, including tennis, softball, flag football, floor hockey, and co-ed volleyball in the fall. Basketball, indoor soccer, and dodge ball are offered in the spring,

"As soon as (the freshmen) get situated on the campus, they should come down to our offices and we will explain everything to them," Poll said. "If they want to get involved even more, we are always looking for intramural referees."
