After a hard-fought win against Creighton on Friday, the women’s volleyball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Big East. The team is set to take on Georgetown today at 5 p.m.
The Pirates have been victorious in ten straight matches, and haven’t tasted defeat dating all the way back to September 19 against Forham.
On Friday, the team finished with a season-high 22 blocks in the 3-2 win over Creighton (25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 25-15, 15-9). Senior Ashani Rubin’s career-best 12 blocks helped anchor the team’s staunch net defense, as Shelbey Manthorpe and Amanda Hansen had nine and seven blocks, respectively.
Stacey Manthorpe’s career high 19 kills provided the team with consistent offense against a strong Creighton team that had, like Seton Hall, entered the match unbeaten in conference play. Tessa Fournier totaled a career-high 31 digs in the match, too, including an eight-dig performance in the crucial first set.
Today, Seton Hall’s status as top conference dog will be put to the test against Georgetown, a team that will enter the match with just one Big East win. The Hoyas swept DePaul on Oct. 4, but that was their lone victory in their previous 10 contests.
Georgetown will be forced to play in a gym that the Pirates have thrived in all year. The Pirates are 9-1 at Walsh Gym this season, having dropped just one match to UNLV back on September 6.
Seton Hall will have a small break period after today’s match before jumping right back into the fray with six matches in ten days. The team’s next opponent is DePaul on Oct. 17, with Big East matches slated for the rest away aside from a pair of nonconference matchups against Stony Brook and LIU Brooklyn.
Today’s match will begin at 5 p.m. at Walsh Gym.
