Men’s basketball lands former Rutgers forward Chris Nwuli out of transfer portal

A former top-50 recruit in the country, Nwuli becomes another offseason addition for the Pirates after one season with their in-state rivals.

Seton Hall men’s basketball added another piece to their frontcourt on Sunday, landing former Rutgers forward Chris Nwuli out of the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-8 forward spent his freshman season as a Scarlet Knight before entering the portal earlier this offseason. With the move to South Orange, he will become the first-ever player to transfer from Rutgers to The Hall.

Coming out of Dynamic Prep in Texas, Nwuli was considered one of the top forwards in the 2025 recruiting class. ESPN ranked him No. 41 nationally, while 247Sports listed him as a four-star recruit and the  No. 24 power forward in the country. Rivals also ranked him inside its national top 120. Entering college, Nwuli picked Rutgers over several major programs, including the Ohio State Buckeyes, the TCU Horned Frogs, the USC Trojans, and the UCLA Bruins.

During his freshman season, Nwuli averaged 2.2 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game.. While his role at Rutgers was limited, SHU is betting on his long-term potential. His length could help the Pirates on both ends of the floor.

Nwuli also gives the Pirates another much-needed frontcourt option after a busy offseason filled with transfer portal and graduation departures. With his addition, Holloway also gets another young player who can develop into a key rotational player over time.
