Seton Hall baseball earned recognition from the BIG EAST on Monday after a weekend series win against Brown. Sophomore infielder Ty Acker and right-handed pitcher Mason Christopher were both named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following strong performances.
Acker led the Pirates at the plate during the three-game series, recording seven hits across the weekend and played a key role in the Pirates’ offense.
In Friday’s 5-2 win, Acker went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk. He helped spark the Pirates’ offense in the middle innings as Seton Hall rallied for the victory. Fellow infielder Gabe Cavazzoni also had a strong game, going 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.
Acker followed that performance with an even bigger day on Saturday. The infielder went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a double in SHU’s 9-6 loss. Sophomore infielder Tommy Manzo added two RBIs in the game as the Pirates scored six runs on eight hits.
Acker finished the weekend with several hits and multiple RBIs, helping anchor the Pirates' lineup throughout the series.
Christopher earned his honor after delivering an elite performance in Sunday’s rubber match. The right-hander threw six shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four batters in The Hall’s 3-1 win. Christopher kept Brown’s offense quiet through most of the afternoon and helped the Pirates secure the series win. After he exited the game, the bullpen finished the job as right-handed pitcher Ryan Reich recorded the save to close out the win.
With the series win, SHU gained momentum as the season continued and improved to 7-8 on the year.
The Pirates will return to the diamond on Tuesday when they host Wagner in a makeup game that was postponed earlier this season due to snow in South Orange. After, Hofstra will visit SHU for a three-game weekend series as The Hall looks to build on their recent series win and the conference honors earned this week.
