Dill earns Weekly Honor Roll recognition after dominant Swig & Swine Classic performance

The sophomore outfielder had his best performance of the season while in South Carolina.

On Monday afternoon, the BIG EAST named Seton Hall baseball’s Aiden Dill to its Weekly Honor Roll, the first Pirate to earn the honor this season, and the second to be recognized by the conference behind sophomore Mason Christopher, who earned Pitcher of the Week the week prior.

Like last weekend’s Puerto Rico Challenge, the Pirates played one less game than scheduled in the Swig & Swince Classic held in Charleston, South Carolina, over the weekend, but returned to snow-covered South Orange having gone 2-1 behind the strong play of Dill.

The sophomore outfielder put together one of the best stretches of his career so far, batting 6-for-11 (.545) while down south, with three RBI’s, five runs, six walks and his first home run of the season.

In SHU’s first game against George Mason on Feb. 20, Dill helped the Pirates to an 8-6 win by drawing four walks and adding a base hit.

That was tame compared to what the Gladstone, NJ native did the following day against Merrimack. Hitting a home run in his very first at bat, Dill went 3-for-4 on the game, while also driving in three RBI’s and scoring three runs himself.

Although he hit a home run, Dill’s best play of the game came in the 11th inning, when he reached first base on a fielder’s choice-sprint to score teammate Gabe Cavazzoni from third, ultimately giving the Pirates the 11-10 extra innings win over the Warriors.

Although George Mason was able to win 11-4 in a rematch with the Pirates in their last game in the Palmetto State on Feb. 22, Dill had another strong performance, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases.

In his first season at The Hall last year, Dill appeared in just eight games, starting two of them, with two hits in nine at-bats.

Before SHU, Dill attended Delbarton High School, where he was the 97th overall player and the 7th-ranked left-handed pitcher in NJ, also on the All-State Third Team.

Now 3-2, Dill and the Pirates will play their first home game of the season on Feb. 25, when they host Wagner (1-5) at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field.
