Men’s basketball adds 6-foot-10 shot-blocker Devin WIlliams out of transfer portal

The Pirates add two forwards in one day, with Williams being their designated rim-protector as things stand.

Mother’s Day is always a special day—but this year was particularly memorable for Seton Hall men’s basketball.

On Sunday, On3’s Joe Tipton reported that Devin Williams, a 6-foot-10 redshirt sophomore forward from Florida Atlantic University (FAU), committed to SHU out of the transfer portal.

Starting in all 33 of the Owl’s games last season, Williams averaged 7.5 points, 5.2 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.

But Williams was most impressive as a rim-protector: his 2.8 blocks per game were the fifth-highest in the nation, while 85 total blocks on the season not only led the Owls but were also the single-most by a sophomore in FAU program history. What’s further, last season Williams had seven blocks in a game—twice.

Although primarily a shot-blocker, Williams can also stretch the floor on offense: he shot 56.0% from the field and 30.6% from 3-point range last season.

Williams’ commitment comes not only a day after visiting SHU’s campus in South Orange, but also after freshman forward Chris Nwuli also committed to The Hall on Sunday from Rutgers—making him the first player ever to make the move from one rival to the other.

At 6-foot-8 and 6-foot-10, respectively, Nwuli and Williams add further length and height to SHU’s guard-heavy roster. They will also be joined by Nathan Mariano in the backcourt, a 6-foot-9 Brazilian forward who committed to The Hall out of the G-League’s Valley Suns on April 26.
