On Thursday afternoon, the BIG EAST named Seton Hall women’s golf’s Marta Aguilar its Female Co-Golfer of the Week, sharing the honor with Xavier’s Isabel Brozena.
The reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Aguilar is shaping up to have another All-BIG EAST season after earning three Female Golfer of the Week honors last season. Aguilar is already up to her second this season, with it having just resumed for the spring on Feb. 21.
Back in September, the Casares Malaga, Spain native was the recipient of the very first Female Golfer of the Week honor of the season after placing fourth at The Southern, held in Statesboro, Georgia, going three strokes behind the lead.
Aguilar’s latest honor, already the fifth of the sophomore’s young career, comes after she tied former Pirate Sarah Fouratt for most strokes under par for a tournament and lowest par-72, three-round score, with a 6-under-par score of 210, in the Space Coast Classic held in Melbourne, Florida. Fouratt’s 6-under par came over four years ago at the Pirate Collegiate Classic, in October 2022.
Tying for first-place in the tournament as well, Aguilar also became the first in program history to win three tournaments, breaking a tie with former Pirates Mia Kness and Erin McClure for the most individual tournament titles.
En route to her 6-under-par, Aguilar shot a 4-under-par with four birdies and 14 pars in the tournament’s opening round and a 3-under-par with three birdies and 11 pars in the second round, both held on Saturday. Her combined 7-under-par put her in second place in the tournament after the conclusion of the competition's first day.
Aguilar shot a 1-over-par, with one birdie and 15 pars, the following day in the tournament’s third and final round to finish with a 6-under-par, good enough to tie for first-place with Emory’s Zimo Li and Dartmouth’s Olivia Cong.
Aguilar and the Pirates will return to the Gulf South on March 8, when they play another three-round tournament at the Jacksonville State Invitational, held in Gadsden, Alabama.
