7 things we are thankful for

Tis the season to be thankful, as Thanksgiving has finally arrived. I hope that everyone in the SHU community has been reminded about what they were thankful for as each week has gone by. Here are seven things to be thankful for today:

1. Sleep, because as we sleep in way too late during this break, we are finally able to rest before the stress of finals kick in. We are able to wake up in our comfy beds these few days and be reminded of how much we missed home.

2. Nature, for leaving us awestruck at the amazing world we live in. Sometimes as life seems to go by a mile a minute, I forget to look around and notice the leaves as they change colors and fall. The phrase “stop and smell the roses” seems wildly applicable today.

3. Siblings, for being our built-in best friends. As you look around the table on this Thanksgiving, remember to be thankful for the family members you grew up with, whether it be cousins or siblings alike.

4. Love, whether it be with family, friends, or significant others. Today is the day to appreciate our loved ones and fall back in love with the idea of love.

5. Pictures, for stopping time if only for a minute and saving our memories when our minds can’t. I often find myself nostalgic on Thanksgiving, providing me with an opportunity to look through old albums of times long gone. Today, make sure to throw it back and be grateful for the times we’ve been lucky enough to have.

6. Smiles, for keeping us happy and bringing beauty to each day. The privilege to be smiling and seeing loved ones smile is the gift that keeps on giving. Today, let’s smile and be thankful and happy that we have this moment to dedicate to our attitude of gratitude.

7. Our country, because without it we wouldn’t be celebrating today and we wouldn’t have a day dedicated to gratitude. Today, I am thankful to be an American and am thankful for the people who fight for my freedom every day.
