The first Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival will be held Oct. 10 on Irvington Avenue. Sponsored by the Irvington Avenue Corridor Advisory Committee (IACAC) in conjunction with the Township of South Orange Village, the South Orange community can expect to enjoy a variety of cuisines from participating food trucks along with a live band, local restaurant specials and a craft beer garden from 5 to 10 p.m.

For the past couple of months, the Irvington Avenue committee has been working to bring 10 food trucks for this event.

According to the committee chairman, Doug Zacker, the “Dean Shot Band” will be providing music that night. Additionally, the Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant will provide a craft beer garden for of-age community members to enjoy.

The South Orange Board of Trustees hopes to improve the Irvington Avenue corridor with various beautification and lighting projects, marketing and branding initiatives and by coordinating events such as this.

Trustee Sheena Collum, liaison to the committee, hopes the event will be a success so that it may continue to be held on Irvington Avenue for the South Orange community.

Collum, the 12-year South Orange resident and Seton Hall alumnus, said the goal of the event is, in part, “to attract people to the Irvington Avenue corridor and create another fun, public event for both South Orange and Seton Hall to take part in.” She added, “We hope to attract lots of Seton Hall students to the event and encourage them to support the businesses in this area as often as possible.”

Senior Chris Crain said, “I’m really excited that the Village is bringing a little culture to South Orange in a safe and responsible way.”

According to Collum, the tentative list of vendors include: Farm Truck, The Cow and the Curd, Oink and Moo BBQ, Empanada Guy, Waffle De Lys, Romano’s Disco Fries, Freezy Freeze, Taquueria Autentica, Cupcake Carnival and The Outsiders.

Trucks will serve tried and true favorites like burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, tacos and pulled pork but they will also offer exciting things to try, such as battered-fried cheese curds, nitrogen ice cream, empanadas and disco fries. Items range from $2-15.

The stretch of Irvington Avenue between Fairview Avenue and Ward Place will be closed for the festival from its start until 11 p.m. and parking is limited.
