Pirate Sports Network modifies approach to news reporting

The Pirate Sports Network (PSN), a fully student-run organization, has been producing live content for the past couple of years. The primary focus of the organization is to produce live games for varsity sports at Seton Hall, but this year the organization has turned its content up a notch by adding different feature length pieces. “A Pirate’s Life,” the main one gives a more in-depth look at some of the student-athletes at Seton Hall and their extensive backstories.

SGA restructures voting procedures in finance committee

Student Government Association Treasure Divine Tanamal and Finance Committee Chair Ronald Babiak announced a restructuring of the finance committee which will shrink the number of voting members down to four non-SGA students and three student senators. According to Treasurer Tanamal the smaller number of voting members will create a space for debate on the allocation of funds which was lacking when the membership was larger.

TurboVote continues to partner with the University

Through a partnership with TurboVote, Seton Hall University will continue its effort to encourage students to get out and vote. TurboVote, a non-partisan organization that helps students sign up to vote is meant to push students to be more politically engaged and participate in the upcoming election season. This service is especially targeted at out-of-state students, with its focus on absentee ballots.

Seton Hall students make waves with model UN themed podcast

According to The New York Times report from March, podcast listeners have significantly increased in the last year. Research conducted by Edison Research and Triton Digital, an audio technology and advertising company, claimed that podcast listenership has increased among all age cohorts. The New York Times wrote that 40% of people between the ages of 12 and 24 listened to a podcast in the last month, which is a 10% increase from 2018.

SHU allocates $750k of donation for core curriculum program

CAPS institutes phone line allowing for 24/7 access to counselors

Princeton Review ranks SHU third in unhappiness

Just under Xavier University of Louisiana and Simmons University, Seton Hall was listed as the third university with the Least Happy Students.

Seton Hall releases key findings of harassment probe

After a nearly yearlong review, the Seton Hall University Board of Regents released an update to the SHU community on August 28 detailing the investigation into Former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s alleged actions between 1986 and 2000 when he served as archbishop. Latham & Watkins, the law firm that was retained to perform the investigation found that McCarrick created a “culture of fear and intimidation that supported his personal objectives” and that he used his platform to sexually harass seminarians at both the Immaculate Conception Seminary and St. Andrew’s Seminary at Seton Hall University.

Acting Gov. Sheila Oliver signs laws protecting student borrowers

Acting Governor Sheila Oliver was welcomed to Seton Hall’s South Orange campus by President Joseph Nyre on July 31 to sign two pieces of legislation into law, targeted at improving college affordability and cost transparency. Oliver and Nyre were joined by other state officials including Director of Higher Education Student Assistance Authority Executive David Socolow, Department of Banking and Insurance Commissioner Marlene Caride and Deputy Secretary of Higher Education Diana Gonzalez to celebrate the signing.

Seton Hall announces 3.9% tuition hike, raising full-year tuition to $41 thousand

Seton Hall announced their annual tuition hike for the 2019-2020 academic year, as well as increases to the semesterly student fee and room and board. The increased tuition price means that for the first time it will cost undergraduate students more than $40 thousand for a full academic year at Seton Hall.
