Disney vs. Dreamworks

For a significant portion of this generation's childhood, Disney has been the be-all, end-all of entertainment in regard to animation. Many of us of can navigate through the sea of memories of our childhood with the help of characters like Ariel the mermaid and Buzz Lightyear. It was not until the turn of the new millennium that the tides began to flow in favor of a new animation studio.

Western redefined in 'Rango'

Westerns typically conjure images of actors like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne--not so much an animated chameleon. While Eastwood and Wayne shaped the classic image of the American cowboy, on March 4 that image may change in the minds of some with the release of "Rango."

MTVU gives musicians Woodies

Although this year's Grammy's have passed, there are still a number of musical acts hoping to gain recognition and possibly even some awards. The college-geared offset of MTV, mtvU, will host their annual awards show, the Woodie Awards, in order to showcase the artists that the Grammy's overlooked.

"Portraiture: Inside Out," the latest exhibit at the Walsh Gallery, challenges the idea of a portrait as merely a figure's head and shoulders. In the exhibit, no such image can be found.

South Orange resident and artistic director of Mingus Big Band, Seth Abramson, received a Grammy in the "Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album" category for his co-production on the album "Mingus Big Band Live at Jazz Standard."

Wiz Khalifa gets "Cabin Fever"

Pittsburgh's Wiz Khalifa has reportedly finished recording his debut album, "Rolling Papers," due on Atlantic Records March 29, but the "Black and Yellow" rapper could not wait until next month to release new material. On Feb. 18, Khalifa unexpectedly released a new mixtape, "Cabin Fever," for free via Rap-up.com.

New musical 'steals' the stage

"The Robber Bridegroom" tells the story of Jamie Lockhart, a man who has two sides: one as an ordinary person and the other as the "Bandit of the Woods." Jamie rescues a rich farmer, Clement Musgrove, and, to thank him for rescuing him, Musgrove offers Jamie marriage to his daughter Rosamund.

Bright Eyes attempts new sound

The classic indie band Bright Eyes dropped a new album this past Tuesday that is likely to be met with praise as well as skepticism from diehard fans. Their latest album, "The People's Key," has a bold new sound that is distinct from the band's last six albums.
