As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread throughout the world, all sports leagues from professional to the recreational levels have either postponed or cancelled their events due to the risk of being vulnerable to the virus. Although not a “sport,” rather “sports-entertainment,” the WWE has shown no plans of slowing down or cancelling any other televised events.

Almost a full two weeks into the baseball season, the Pirates have split their first six games to begin the 2020 campaign, going 3-3 with blowout victories over Illinois and Milwaukee and a walk-off loss to No. 20 Wake Forest. Seton Hall is now gearing up for a road trip to California, with seven games in nine days against USC, Fresno State, and Saint Mary’s.

On a baseball team full of experience, David Festa adds to that despite being only a sophomore. The University’s reigning Freshman Athlete of the Year is one of the pivotal starting pitchers on a team with hopes of capturing the conference crown. Already holding the role of a weekend starter, it is known Festa is one of the most important cogs of the Pirate program after an impressive first season.

Although a young foundation is in place for the women’s basketball team, the three seniors nearing the end of their collegiate careers have been the most influential class on the court this season. Big East Preseason Player of the Year Shadeen Samuels, Alexis Lewis and Barbara Johnson have implemented themselves as key players for the program throughout the year and continue to do so as the team aspires to make a postseason push.

Team orientated play has been the source of success for the Pirates, as they have marched out to a 12-7 record with the season entering its last legs. Despite the belief that Big East Preseason Player of the Year Shadeen Samuels would carry the program to its victories for the 2019-20 campaign, the diverse team effort has produced the results the Pirates have hoped for.

The inaugural season of the Ciara Crinion era as head coach has ended for the women’s soccer program. The Pirates concluded their first year under Crinion with a record of 2-13-1 and a conference record of 1-8, a year removed from going 2-12-4 with no Big East victories.

As part of a 95-69 season opening victory for Seton Hall over Sacred Heart, Big East Preseason Player of the Year Shadeen Samuels displayed why she was recognized as the conference’s best player, notching a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. She was one of three players to record double digits points, with four players finishing with nine. Samuels and the Pirates’ source of offense came from behind the three-point line, as the Hall converted on 12-30 from beyond the arc.
