9 a.m. was never too early for a Seton Hall women’s tennis conference postseason win—or for a moment of deja-vu.
On Thursday morning, the nine-seeded Pirates (6-14, 1-5 BIG EAST) defeated the eighth-seeded Marquette Golden Eagles (8-13, 0-0 BIG EAST) 4-0 in singles and doubles in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship at Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, South Carolina.
This marks the second-straight season The Hall has reached the quarterfinals, when they likewise defeated the ninth seed after defeating the eight-seeded Creighton Bluejays last season.
The win came behind doubles wins from both the duos of freshman Kira Farrakhova and sophomore Isabelle May, as well as sophomores Ellie Coe and Jaden Davidson.
May and Davidson also earned wins in singles, with junior Anastasia Sereda doing the same as well.
The Pirates will stay down south for the quarterfinals on Friday, when they will face the top-seeded Xavier Musketeers.
