Satire: Students competitively play Dress to Impress on Roblox

Roblox game “Dress to Impress” inspires students to create a new club, bringing runway fantasies to campus.

Time for a new makeup look, where is the pink heart? Perfect, love it. Next, time for a new outfit that screams the cover of Vogue: a little coffee brown beret, caramel brown pencil skirt, bold gold jewelry, and a black bomber jacket, all tied together with gold and black pumps.

Pink lights flashing, the runway is calling. One step. Another. One arm across your face. Now, bring it down to the hip. This stage is yours, working these clothes as they reside in your closet.

Voting closed…and boom, first place. As Fat Amy from “Pitch Perfect” says, “Crushed it.”

You hear your name called from the Starbucks in the University Center, pulling you out of your fashion realm, as you remember Queenforlife84 is just your avatar.

“Dress to Impress” is making waves as the hottest subculture of Seton Hall. The Roblox game is the star of the new “Dress to Impress” Roblox Club, which became official on March 32.

With over six billion visits to the game since its introduction in 2023, it has only gained popularity. Charlie XCX brought “Dress to Impress” to the forefront of public discourse from her Brats collaboration with the game.

“The creativity that really brings a big community of everyone together, even though, you know, who knows who you’re playing with,” said Taylor Strauss, a senior social behavioral sciences major and president of the “Dress to Impress” Roblox Club.

“Dress to Impress” club leaders said they hope to host cosponsor events with Esports to let everyone’s inner diva set free. They are hosting a dress-up, de-stress event for students to play the game on reading day.

“I’m really excited about it,” said Maya Tejada, a senior communications major, vice president and the public relations chair of “Dress to Impress” Roblox Club. “I’m a little nervous because this is our time to network with other programs and things like that, but we are here to bring the ambiance and the excellence of Roblox to this event.”

While Roblox’s target audience tends to be younger individuals, under 13 years old, “Dress to Impress” has brought in older teens and young adults. Strauss said they are the big dogs in the league and Esports should know who the real winners are gonna be.

After submitting their club idea to the Student Government Association (SGA), students across campus can attend meetings and battle out styles on the runway with only six minutes to match the theme. Tejada said her favorite pose at the end of the runway is Pose 28 or So Julia.

“What doesn’t calm my nerves is when I’m not on the leaderboard, and I articulate a really good outfit, really crafted in with my soul,” Tejada said.
