Pirates defeat VCU Rams in first round

In the opening game of the Charleston Classic the Pirates defeated the Virginia Commonwealth Rams 69-54.

The win improves the Hall's record to 2-0 and advances them to the second round of the tournament where they will face either Georgia Tech or St. Joseph's.

Three players for the Pirates scored in double figures with seniors Jordan Theodore and Herb Pope leading the way with 20 points each. Pope also added 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Sophomore Fuquan Edwin added 18 points of his own on 6-8 shooting.

Sophomore Patrik Auda was ejected from the game late in the first half due to an elbow to the face and ended up scoring 7 points in 17 minutes.

Following a 41 percent shooting performance in the first game the Hall responded to shoot 47 percent against the Rams. The Pirates also held an edge on the boards outrebounding the Rams 35-28.

Leading VCU was senior Bradford Burgess with 11 points, and as a team only shot 33 percent from the field.

The Hall will next play on Friday Nov. 18 with tip-off scheduled at 6:00 p.m.
