Women’s basketball lands Saniyah King as first commit out of transfer portal

King gives the Pirates another playmaker as the program continues to reshape its roster.

Seton Hall women’s basketball added a key piece to its roster, as guard Saniyah King announced on her Instagram that she has committed to the program out of the transfer portal.

King is a 5-foot-7 sophomore from Washington, D.C., who spent last season at Mississippi State. She will now join a backcourt that includes junior guard Savannah Catalon and sophomore guard Jada Eads, giving the Pirates more depth at the guard position.

During the 2025-26 season, King appeared in 26 games and averaged 2.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 14.1 minutes per game. Her season-high came against Vanderbilt on Jan. 15, when she scored 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Before her time at Mississippi State, King made a huge impact as a freshman at Howard. She started 31 of 32 games and averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game. Her play earned her Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year honors, with 11 MEAC Rookie of the Week selections. She also finished among the national leaders in assists for freshmen, with 145 total assists on the season.

As SHU continues to reshape their roster, King brings added depth and playmaking talent to the Pirates’ already talented backcourt in that respect.
