Seton Hall softball’s sophomore infielder Sophia DeMarco earned a spot on the BIG EAST’s Weekly Honor Roll the conference announced earlier today, after a strong stretch at the plate.
DeMarco was a bright spot for the Pirates during a tough week as a team. The sophomore went 6-for-12 across four games, finishing with a .500 batting average. She also added two home runs and five RBIs.
Her best game came in the Pirates’ series opening 9-6 loss to Providence on March 27. DeMarco recorded three hits and drove in three runs, while also hitting her fifth home run of the season.
She continued to deliver throughout the weekend series: In its finale against the Friars on March 29, DeMarco once again came through in a big moment. She hit another homer and followed it up with a game-winning single to lead the Pirates to a 4-3 win.
SHU picked up wins over Saint Joseph’s and Providence, with DeMarco playing a key role in both games. With the award, DeMarco continues to build on a strong sophomore season and has become one of the team’s most reliable hitters at the plate.
The Pirates’ next game is on Tuesday, March 31, when they host Stony Brook at Essex County Mike Sheppard, St. Field in South Orange.
