Coming off a flawless win streak in both doubles and singles since Seton Hall women’s tennis faced off against Villanova on Feb. 7, the BIG EAST named Kira Farrakhova its BIG EAST Women’s Singles Player of the Week on the afternoon of Feb. 16.
Since her victory over Olivia Corcoran of Villanova 6-7(5), 6-3, 1-0(5) on Feb. 7, the freshman from Boca Raton has not lost a match.. Her singles streak continued with a tough win over Maria Hrynashka, 7-5, 7-6(0), representing the Delaware Blue Hens, and most recently Lucia Casas Blas, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(5), of the Delaware State Hornets.
Outside of her singles dominance, Farrakhova’s doubles record was also perfect in the tennis team’s last three outings, pairing with sophomore Isabelle May to defeat other pairs from all three schools.
Following the team’s win over Delaware State, Farrakhova received the BIG EAST Women’s Singles Player of the Week award, the first time a Pirate has received a weekly singles accolade since the 2022 season. Farrakhova ranks the highest on SHU’s roster, holding a 5-2 singles record so far this season. The Pirates ace is on a four-game singles winning streak, dating back to the Pirates’ 5-2 win over the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds on Jan.31.
Outside of her dominance as a Division 1 tennis player, Farrakhova is a Biology student in SHU’s College of Arts and Sciences on the Pre-Med track.
Farrakhova will take to the court once again against Brown University (6-3) on Friday Feb. 20, with the hopes of extending her singles hot streak. She is projected to play against Bears sophomore Sari Woo.
As the Pirates rally behind Farrakhova’s dominance, all eyes will be on the freshman to continue to leave a mark in her first year with the program.
