Pirates dominate DePaul 91-78 in Offensive Showcase on Seton Hall vs. Cancer Day

In an outstanding offensive display, the Seton Hall Pirates secured a commanding 91-78 victory over the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday, marking a successful outing on Seton Hall vs. Cancer Day in Walsh Gym.

After trailing by three early on, the Pirates sparked an 8-0 run and led after the first quarter, 22-17. Micah Gray knocked down all three of the team’s three-pointers in the first ten minutes of play.

The momentum continued in the second quarter, as the Pirates had an 11-0 burst, which helped to extend their lead to 51-32 headed into the break. The Hall went 7-for-7 on free throws in the second period while the Demons were still yet to gain a free throw.

DePaul made improvements in the second half, narrowly losing the third quarter, 17-18, and outscoring the Pirates in the fourth quarter, 29-22, though the Blue Demons were still unable to put a dent in Seton Hall’s lead.

The Pirates sealed their 91-78 victory against DePaul to get back in the win column. Five Seton Hall starters achieved double-digit scoring; something that hasn’t been accomplished in over two years. Leading the charge were freshman guard Savannah Catalon and sophomore guard Micah Gray, who both delivered standout performances, as they tallied 21 points each.

Sha'Lynn Hagans contributed a season-high 15 points on an efficient 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Kae Satterfield rounded out the scoring effort with 13 points along with Azana Baines, who celebrated her 1000th career point last week.

The Pirate's efficient free-throw shooting propelled the win, as they shot 89.5%, aided by Catalon's flawless 11-for-11 performance from the line. The team shot 46.5% from the field while knocking down 36.4% from long range.

Seton Hall improves to 7-8 in BIG EAST play and 15-11 overall, placing them sixth in the conference, while DePaul falls to 4-11 in BIG EAST play and 12-16 overall, sitting at 10th.

Looking ahead, The Hall will face BIG EAST rival Marquette on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Milwaukee at 8:00 p.m.
