Seton Hall designates Ora Manor as quarantine facility for fall

Seton Hall announced on Wednesday that it would designate Ora Manor, the University’s off-campus apartment located on Valley Street, to serve as an isolation and quarantine facility for resident students in the fall.

According to the email from Seton Hall’s Department of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) sent to Ora Manor residents on Wednesday, students who had previously opted to live in the apartments for the upcoming academic year will instead be relocated to another dorm on Seton Hall’s campus.

Students who chose to live in a single room could potentially be reassigned to a double room on campus with a roommate in order to accommodate the policy shift.

“Housing and Residence Life will attempt to keep students assigned to the same apartment in a suite together,” the email read, which encouraged students with questions to reach out to the department.

In addition to the elimination of Ora Manor as a dorm for non-quarantining or non-isolating students, HRL also announced on Wednesday that it was eliminating triple occupancy dorms for the upcoming academic year as a way to mitigate the risks around potential COVID-19 infections.

This is not the first time Seton Hall announced its plan to use an entire to house potentially sick students in the fall as a method to help facilitate a safe return.

Seton Hall University President Dr. Joseph Nyre told the Asbury Park Press in May that the University was planning to have “one residence hall to isolate students who are unwell or quarantined” in the fall but declined to specify which dorm that would be until now.

Ora Manor holds roughly 100 students, according to the University’s website, and is located just two miles away from the Seton Hall's main campus.

The cost to live in Ora Manor is greater than the cost to live in one of the University’s on-campus dorms that students may be relocated to, with double and single apartments in the building running students $6,270 and $7,831 per semester, respectively. Comparatively, a double dorm on campus – which contains two people per room – costs students nearly $1,000 more at $5,249 per semester.

Representatives from HRL did not immediately return a request to comment.
