Women’s tennis outmatched in lost to FIU

The Seton Hall women’s tennis team was able to stay close in doubles, but ultimately got swept, 4-0, by FIU on Sunday afternoon. It is the first loss for the Pirates in the spring season after starting 2-0.

Melody Taal and Michal Matson picked up Seton Hall’s only win at 6-3 in third doubles. Anicka Fajnorova and Regina Pitts put up a formidable effort in their match but fell 6-3.

In contrast, Thandy Kangwa and Minja Gligic were blown out, 6-1, and struggled to stay in the match.

In singles, FIU would sweep all six matches. Fajnorova lost both sets 6-0 and 6-2. Pitts also struggled, losing 6-1 and 6-2. Taal, who went up against FIU’s Sandra Bozinovic, came close to picking up a victory in her singles match, but she could not get over the hill and complete it as the match remained unfinished. After winning her first set, 6-4, Taal then tied the second set at 6-6, but lost the third set, 5-4.

Matson lost 6-1 in both of her sets. Anniek Jansen and Mekeila Erspamer each also lost in unfinished matches.

Seton Hall’s next game will be Feb. 9 at home against Drexel.
