The Student Activities Board (SAB) brought Seton Hall students together before the start of the semester as they held their annual Blue Day celebration on the Green on Aug. 26. Blue Day is an annual social event for students and features food, games and music activities like bungee jumping and mini-golf.

The theme for Blue Day was inspired by a SAB member’s trips to Disney World over the summer. The food served was an inspiration from all the organizers though to try and mimic the atmosphere of a summer festival. From ice cream to powdered desserts, there was a variety to eat and a lot of games to take part in.
The event began after new student convocation, where many freshman and transfer students attend the event with their friends and other people they recently met in their freshman peer advisor groups.
Although Blue Day is primarily designed for freshmen, upperclassmen were also able to attend and reconnect with friends before the start of classes.
Chemani Linton, a freshman biology major, said that she enjoyed the event and brought her friend who she met in her peer advisor group. “There’s so much to do and I like it,” Linton said. “It was a lot of fun.”
“My favorite part is probably just being able to walk around and say ‘hi’ to the people I missed out on over the summer and seeing everybody smile,” said Aubrey Casterline, a sophomore creative writing and philosophy major.
The theme for this year’s Blue Day was “boardwalk.” Lauren Woodward, a sophomore accounting major and co-chair of SAB, said that she and her co-chairs, Gabrielle Pietanza, Shruti Sharma and Samantha Innamorato, spent several weeks planning and the Blue Day event.
Woodward said she wanted to ensure that everything was in place to give the freshmen and all those attending a memorable time in their collegiate career. She added that she wanted to emulate her Blue Day experience from her freshman year for this year’s freshman class.
“For my Blue Day there was a lot of fun stuff for me to just do. I was there for a while and I made some of my first friends there,” Woodward said. “And that’s where kind of networking comes into play.”
“When you get out of convocation, you wanna do something fun before classes start and I think Blue Day is a really great way to do that.”
