Seton Hall Athletics[/caption]
The Seton Hall women’s basketball team’s four-game winning streak was snapped by the Marquette Golden Eagles, 89-82, on Sunday afternoon.
Shooting and turnovers doomed the Blue and White. Seton Hall only shot 42 percent and 30 percent from three-point range. Seton Hall gave the ball up 18 times during the game.
Leading the way for the Pirates was senior Tabatha Richardson-Smith with 28 points and nine rebounds. Richardson-Smith now has seven consecutive games in which she has scored 20 or more points.
Senior Aleesha Powell scored 16 points, highlighted by three shots from deep. Graduate-student Shakena Richardson nearly had a double-double with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The first half of the game was all Marquette, as the Eagles went into halftime with an 11-point lead. The Golden Eagles shot 43 percent and hit five threes in 13 attempts. The Pirates were shooting 35 percent from the field and hit only two three-pointers.
The Pirates went down by 20 points late in the third quarter, and they weren’t able to complete the comeback. Seton Hall shot 60 percent in the second half and scored 30 points in the fourth quarter to Marquette’s 21.
With this win, the Golden Eagles have won five straight games. Marquette shot the ball well early and ended the game shooting 50 percent. Marquette hit seven threes on 37 percent shooting.
Five players scored in double figures with Allazia Blockton leading the way. The freshman had 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Fellow classmate Erika Davenport had 16 points on 70 percent shooting and had 14 total rebounds.
Seton Hall is now 17-5, 7-4, and still sits behind DePaul in the conference standings. Marquette is 11-11, 6-5.
The next game for the Pirates will be home against St. John’s on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
