Blowing up box offices in 2015

The blockbuster movies coming out this year are full of action and adventure. Also, some of these movies happen to be sequels or the continuation of a well-known series that’s been hyped for the past couple of years.

“I’m looking forward to the new Avengers movie,” said Matt Steinmetz, a junior history and philosophy major. “I love movies with explosions.”

This action-adventure-fantasy film comes out on May 1 and follows Tony Stark as he “tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program,” according to the Internet Movie Database. Things end up going awry and the Avengers must stop the villainous Ultron from carrying out his evil plans.

Another adventure and sci-fi movie with tons of action coming out is “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.”

“I’m excited to see the new Hunger Games movie because I saw the first three in theaters with my best friends,” said Krystyn Wypasek, a junior graphic design major.

The film continues where the last one left off, with Katniss Everdeen and District 13’s revolution against the oppressive Capitol. The movie is based on the post-apocalyptic young adult novels by Suzanne Collins. It starS the same cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. The film comes out on Nov. 20.

“Jurassic World” starring Chris Pratt is also a movie to look out for this year.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation fight a T-Rex,” said Nate Sherman, a junior marketing major. According to the Internet Movie Database, action in the new film takes place 22 years after the events of the 1993 film “Jurassic Park.” Isla Nublar, a dinosaur theme park, must make enough money to stay open. The film follows the events after a new attraction is created, but backfires horribly. It will be released on June 12 and also has stars from other comedies like Judy Greer from “Arrested Development” and Jake Johnson from “New Girl.”

On Feb. 13, “The Last Five Years” starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan premieres. It is based on the Broadway musical, which follows the story of a struggling actress named Cathy and a novelist named Jamie, where one sings about their relationship from the beginning to the end and the other from the end to the beginning.

The viewer sees the deconstruction and struggle of the couple’s love affair. It is a more dramatic and romantic story than the many action and adventure films being released this year. But with the wide array of genres being released in 2015, there’s likely to be a movie for every taste.
