The Seton Hall women’s cross country team won the St. Johns-Hofstra Fall Festival on Sunday as all five scorers placed in the top 12 individually. The victory was the first for the program since it transitioned from having both track and cross country to offering cross country exclusively. The Pirates improved on their second place finish at the Monmouth XC Kick Off. Freshman Christiana Rutkowski once again led The Hall, finishing sixth with a time of 19:35.4.
Rutkowski was one of three Pirates to finish consecutively in the top 10. For the second straight meet, senior Mary Migton was right behind Rutkowski with a time of 19:41.0 good for seventh place. Sophomore Desyre Blackburn came in at time of 19.55.5 to finish eighth overall.
Rounding out the scoring group for the Pirates were freshman Bailey Seach and junior Amanda Quaglia. Seach finished 11th with a time of 20:21.6 and Quaglia finished 12th with a time of 20:22.0.
The men’s cross country team finished second in the 5-K race. Senior Kevin Walsh led the blue and white for the second consecutive week, coming in ninth place with a time of16:14.7. It was a great effort by Walsh and the team, which finished within two points of host Hofstra for the team title.
Finishing behind Walsh was freshman Jake Simon with a time of 16:14.7 good for 10th. Fellow freshman Bryant Cordova finished 22nd with a time of 16:37.8. Simon and Cordova have scored in two straight scoring performances to start their collegiate careers.
Sophomores Victor Ricci and Sean Kip scored for the Pirates with Ricci finishing 16th with a time of 16:29.8 after not scoring at the previous meet. Kip recorded a time of 16:34.1 placing 20th.
