Gym official responds to locker complaints

Complaints that the new lockers in the Richie Regan Recreational Center are too small are being addressed, according to Patrick Lyons, the director of athletics and recreational services.

According to Lyons, "a couple" of faculty emailed him with their complaints.

"The concerns that I have heard were the locker sizes, that they preferred that they were bigger," Lyons said.

He said the size of the lockers is attributed to space issues.

"What we tried to do when we put the lockers in is try to optimize how many lockers we could get into the space, so that's why we have a lot of half lockers," Lyons said.

Lyons also said that he is working on possible solutions and has already met with an architect about the situation.

"We had an architect take a look at the rooms to see what they can do," he said. "One solution might be to... potentially put some larger lockers in."

In terms of how much a potential remodeling could cost the University, Lyons said he does not know at this point.

Lyons added that if the remodeling were to happen, it would not occur this semester because he does not want to keep students from using the gym.

"I don't want to disrupt the facility, I don't want to disrupt what we're doing," he said.
