Make an effort to do more for others

It's often that we think of kindness in the wake of hardship.

When honoring lost ones after any tragedy, such as Sept. 11 or the Boland fire, we suddenly promote the idea of reminding others how much we appreciate them.

We need to do this every day. Instead of just combating sadness with positivity, we as a community can promote kindness always.

Whether it's a well-crafted list of acts of kindness that you want to accomplish, or just actively going out of your way one time to make someone else's life easier, it is important to be selfless.

How many times have you let a door close behind you just as you noticed the person you could have held it open for?

How many missed calls or texts do you have from your parents?

Lost opportunities to lend a hand can be turned around for the better.

Creating a positive atmosphere is contagious, so by being outwardly courteous and caring, others will be inspired to act like that by nature.

Whether you decide smile at a stranger or volunteer abroad, we can all start by acting making an effort on campus.

Hopefully it will affect the actions of your peers.
