Hall's ONE ranks, up for votes

The ONE chapter at Seton Hall is ranked in the top 10 most active chapters in the nation, and will be launching its final campaign project on campus next week.

Sophomore and president of the Hall's ONE chapter Alyssa Alfano said the ONE campaign is a grassroots organization dedicated to eradicating extreme poverty and preventable disease.

"Each year, ONE launches the ONE Campus Challenge, targeted at college Chapters of ONE," Alfano said. "Schools submit actions that gain them points, including fundraisers, writing letters to senators and movie screenings."

All points are tallied in each individual chapter and the colleges are then placed into an order based upon their totaled score.

The schools that are in the Top 10 category are given the opportunity to submit a final project.

"This year's prize for the winner is a check donated to an organization of their choice for $10,000," Alfano said.

The schools that are participating in the top 10 are required to design a series of events that are linked to a major goal of the ONE organization.

"SHU's ONE Chapter decided on water because of our previously planned event with Nuru international,"Alfano said.

Seton Hall's ONE is holding their Nuru Water Walk Event next week. The participants will have to walk a mile on campus carrying a bucket of water.

"Although our Nuru Water Walk event is scheduled for next week, it is looking to be our biggest event yet," Alfano said. "Participants will get an empty water jug, it will be filled and then we will expect everyone to walk almost a mile on campus carrying that jug and remembering the thousands of children doing that every day.

In addition to their final project, the Seton Hall ONE chapter was selected to create a video about it that is up for voting among 11 other schools.

Any student at Seton Hall is eligible to vote for the SHU Chapter online at the ONE stie. A winner will be announced on Tuesday April 13.

ONE member and sophomore Katie Moore said she is excited that Seton Hall is in the Top 10 considering it is one of the smaller college chapters.

"Since we're a small chapter, it's difficult to get membership points. Despite our small membership, we still made it to the top, which is cool,"Moore said.
