Academics hold Oliver out

Pirates' Center Melvyn Oliver will be temporarily removed from the men's basketball team to focus on his academics.

In a statement released by head coach Bobby Gonzalez, he reiterated that this move is not permanent and is intended to allow Oliver to focus solely on his studies.

"It is essential that each member of the team remember that they are a student-athlete and that their success in the classroom is the utmost importance," Gonzalez said.

Oliver has not played much on the court.

On the season, he has only recorded two minutes of play, while not recording any points or rebounds.

This is the second played the Hall has lost this season. On Nov. 9, Gonzalez suspended junior guard Keon Lawrence for an off-the-court incident on Nov. 8.

Zagsblog.com that Lawrence would return to action against LIU on Nov. 28, however this was not true, as Lawrence remained in a shirt and tie while sitting on the end of the Pirates' bench.
