LaSala to chair search committee

"Presidential Transition 2010" is officially underway, as the university has named a chair to the Presidential Search and Screen Committee.

Joseph P. LaSala, a member of the Boards of Regents and Trustees, sits atop a group that will ultimately find the successor to Msgr. Robert Sheeran, who will step down from Seton Hall's leadership post next June.

On Tuesday night, the university sent out a letter via broadcast e-mail from LaSala detailing his appointment and the creation of a website for the transition, which will "be updated regularly and serve as a central place to submit questions or suggestions about the search and to obtain official information" according to the letter.

The note also explained that a Leadership Statement is being crafted by the Board of Regents and that the remainder of the Search and Screen Committee will be named "in the upcoming weeks."

LaSala, a partner at the law firm McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, graduated Seton Hall Law in 1972. His accomplished background includes a role as a Liquidating Trustee for the United States District Court where he has helped to recover over $250 million from defrauded shareholders, according to his profile on the firm's website.

He has also been active in multiple legal groups and bar associations in Essex County and New Jersey while earning accolades such as the Distinguished Graduate title from Seton Hall Law in 1991 and the overall university in 1996.

The current Chair of the Board of Regents, Kurt Borowsky, officially appointed LaSala to his post.
