Petition aims to stop plan for U-Center

A petition signed by South Orange residents was started to stop Seton Hall from expanding the University Center.

The petition, on change.org started by John Gay, states that the new University Center will have two-lane, 25-foot-wide service road that runs parallel to South Orange Avenue, a 100-foot-wide truck turning circle and loading dock to handle trash.

The complaint the petition highlights is "the road and turning circle will pave over large parts the green space that fronts South Orange Avenue."

Seton Hall administrators declined to comment.

The petition states a problem with the fact that during construction, there will be three temporary metal buildings facing South Orange Avenue.

"We believe that the physical character of the neighborhoods that surround the project and the township itself will be very negatively affected by this project," the petition stated.
