Softball’s seniors near end, but impact will be a constant

Like the exit velocity on an Alexis Walkden home run or Allie Prukop line drive, the speed of an Alannah Basile fastball or the quickness of Sara Foster defensively in the infield, four years flew by for the Seton Hall softball class of 2018. As freshmen in the fall of 2014, the four Pirate newcomers came to South Orange with their families – Walkden from Cibolo, Texas, Basile from Levittown, N.Y., Foster from Long Beach, Calif., and...

Bats go cold as Stony Brook shuts out Seton Hall

Walkden leaves behind legendary legacy at Seton Hall

Sun soaked the 300-plus fans that lined the bleachers and leftfield fence at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field on April 22. Blue and white balloons hung from bleacher corners, posters hung from fences and a mural of the four softball seniors: Alannah Basile, Sara Foster, Alyssa Prukop and Alexis Walkden, rested behind home plate. Perhaps revitalized by the scene, Seton Hall did not come out like a team that had just dropped both ends of a...

After losing six seniors, Seton Hall softball’s youth movement leads the way

Replacing six seniors is difficult for any collegiate softball team, But when three of those seniors are among a team’s top five in batting average and one has the second-lowest ERA of any pitcher, it is easy to see how a team might find it especially challenging to fill those gaps. Seton Hall’s softball team found itself in that exact situation entering the 2018 season. Despite the holes the players’ departure left for coach Paige...
