On Tuesday morning, the Associated Press (AP) named Seton Hall men’s basketball head coach Shaheen Holloway its BIG EAST Coach of the Year, with Holloway expected to take home the actual conference honor when the BIG EAST announces the winner, along with its remaining individual awards, in a press conference held at Madison Square Garden (MSG) on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the conference tournament.
“Holloway earned coach of the year honors by leading Seton Hall to a 20-11 mark a year after a 7-25 finish [last season],” according to the AP’s press release.
Holloway received eight votes in the AP’s 14-person media panel, with the remaining six votes going to former SHU and current Villanova head coach Kevin Willard, who Holloway spent 10 seasons under as an assistant coach (two at Iona University and eight at SHU) before later succeeding him when Willard left the program in 2022.
Also recognized by the AP was junior guard Adam “Budd” Clark, who was named to its All-BIG EAST Second Team, as the conference also named him on March 8.
If Holloway or Willard (or both) are named the winner, be on the lookout Wednesday afternoon for The Setonian’s coverage of the BIG EAST’s Coach of the Year announcement.
