7 things we are thankful for

As the second week of November comes to a close and Thanksgiving gets closer, we at Seton Hall have much to be thankful for. A quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds us to “cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you and to give thanks continuously.” Here are seven things to be thankful for: 1.      A roof over our heads and a warm house. Sometimes being a young, broke college student makes us forget how lucky we are just to have shelter. This season, let’s be thankful that we have a bed to sleep in at night and a roof over our heads. 2.      We have plenty of food and water. Just having food to eat and water to drink is not a given in this world and we should be grateful that we have both of these things, whether the caf serves your favorite meals or not. 3.      Access to the internet. It is amazing how many opportunities the internet brings students. Whether or not we apply for internships online or use the internet to aid our learning in the classroom, this invention should leave us feeling very grateful. 4.      Setbacks make us stronger. Although many of us have experienced setbacks in our lives, now is the time to realize that those experiences have only made us stronger and helped us get to where we are now. 5.      The SHU community. Being able to experience college at a university that has such a community behind it is a rare and beautiful thing to be thankful for. Make sure you say hi to Father John as you pass by Duffy Hall going to class or sit out on the green to take in the beauty of our campus. 6.      Enjoying the small pleasures in life. Maybe tonight we’ll all go out and look at the sunset, take a walk in the woods, watch the Christmas lights be put up on the tree in the green. Regardless, now is the time to be grateful for all the small victories. 7.      Life in and of itself. We are living right here and right now. We have these moments in college and are experiencing life for ourselves for the first time. It is an amazing thing and we should be very thankful for it.
