It’s that time of the year, Pirates. Finals. (cue groaning).
I know, finals are nobody’s favorite. The one good thing about the end of the semester though? Winter break.
After a long, grueling semester where us Seton Hall students no doubt grinded in every facet of life, we deserve some time off. The faculty do too.
I wanted to take the last Voice to offer some advice to the students reading this from The Setonian: take advantage of the break. Whatever this means to you, whether it’s researching potential post-grad opportunities, practicing a skill you’ve been meaning to develop or working on your portfolio. Try to grow your network or grab coffee with someone who could advance your career.
Now, I’m not trying to be a bore and yes, I absolutely believe that winter break is a time for rest and relaxation. I personally will be spending the first week or so curled up in my pajama pants catching up on Law and Order SVU and Shameless.
But I also plan to get to the to-do list I’ve had piling up for several months. You know, the running list of things you should have done forever ago but continuously push off.
Time off is blessing in many ways. The most successful people take advantage of their free time and plan ahead. It’s important to remember in college that there is an expiration date and pending adulthood is always looming at the end of the tunnel. The best way to make it seem more manageable is if you plan throughout college, build your resume and grind. Life is so much easier when you know your next step.
So, Pirates, take the month we have off and make the best of it. Sleep, catch up with old friends and family and think just a little about what you’ll be doing next. You’ll thank yourself later.
