Fellow Pirates:

We are excited to formally introduce a Student Government Association Senate bill, which creates the executive agency, Environmental Protection and Conservation Commission (EPACC). This executive agency will henceforth act as the overarching agency regarding environmental concerns on campus.

This agency will neither hinder nor end the efforts of the campus-wide initiative Blue Goes Green. Rather, the agency will envelop this and build open this to create a lasting legislative structure that can be built upon in the future. Furthermore, it is our hope that EPACC will be an avenue for students from all majors and all walks of life to come together with the administration to make an impact on the environmental efforts EPACC seeks to embark on at Seton Hall.

The EPACC bill is scheduled to be voted on by our colleagues in the Senate this coming Monday, February 4th. Each time a senator votes “yes” it carries far more meaning than simply an act to affirm a piece of legislation. A “yes” vote also is a chance for all of us, as the elected student government, to show to all of you that environmental conservation and sustainability is an issue that deserves our attention.

We believe everyone from students, to the administration should have concern and have the urge to take up the mission of being a steward of our environment. EPACC is our first step to move all of us in the right direction.

Everyone is welcomed to at some point in time get involved with EPACC and the SGA. Even simply giving an idea to the agency or the Senate can help.

All you have to do is come to an SGA meeting on Mondays at 7 p.m. in the Chancellor Suite of the University Center. You have a chance to make a difference.
