Red hot Pirates win Blue Raider Bash

[caption id="attachment_14994" align="aligncenter" width="551"]Photo via SHU Athletics Photo via SHU Athletics[/caption] The Seton Hall Pirates volleyball team claimed their place as winners of the 2016 Blue Raider Bash in on Saturday afternoon with a sweep over host Middle Tennessee State. The sets were won by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-14. The dominant Pirates only lost one set on their way to the tournament championship after besting Illinois State and Tennessee Tech in a Friday double-header. Sophia Coffey and Maggie Cvelbar paced the Pirates' offense, with Coffey contributing 14 assists and Cvelbar contributing 10.  Senior Tessa Fournier led all Pirates by a wide margin with 15 digs. The next Pirate finished with only five digs. Dominique Mason led the team in kills with eight while Abby Thelen and Danielle Schroeder contributed six apiece. The Pirates led much of the match with no pressure from Middle Tennessee State.  After being tied early in the first set, the Pirates built a healthy seven-point lead on their way to a win. The second set was all Middle Tennessee State early, but the Pirates rallied late and took set three comfortably to win the match. The red-hot Pirates have now won their last five matches after starting the season 0-4. Saturday’s win puts them over .500 for the first time this season. Furthermore, the Pirates have only lost two sets in those last five matches.
