Freshman Edwin honored by Big East

Freshman Fuquan Edwin has been named Big East Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of Dec. 13.

Edwin averaged 15.5 points, nine rebounds, and three steals in the Pirates two victories against Longwood and NJIT. In both games Edwin lead the Hall in scoring with 17 and 14 points respectively, while also recording nine rebounds and three steals in both matchups.

The 17 points and nine rebounds against the Longwood Lancers are both career highs in the freshman's short career, so far.

Edwin is the first Pirate to win this award since senior Jeremy Hazell won it on Jan. 21, 2008, while averaging 25.5 points in two wins against South Florida and Louisville.

This is also the second straight week that a Pirate has been honored by the Big East Conference, with junior Jordan Theodore being named to the Weekly Honor Roll for the conference, last week.

Also receiving an award from the Big East is Pittsburgh's senior forward Gilbert Brown being named Big East Conference player of the week.

Edwin and the Pirates return to the court Wednesday, against the Dayton Flyers in one of their final two games before Big East play starts Dec. 28 versus South Florida.
